CRAFTING BEAUTIFUL POTTERY WITH PASSION
My name is Miranda Davis, and I am proud to be a 6th generation Arizonan. I’ve been married to my wonderful husband for nearly 30 years. I am a bookkeeper by trade, a homemaker, gardener and lover of natural and homemade.
My true passion is in creating beautiful things when inspiration strikes. I taught myself all about pottery 6 years ago and the wheel hasn’t stopped turning since . I spend a lot of time perfecting my skills and my craft. Discovering my style and learning lessons in patience and grace. Gaining confidence in my work and continuing to grow and learn in this amazing art form.
My art is inspired by the landscapes of my roots. I love being out in nature and it comes through most of my work.
My work is made with stoneware clay in my small, humble home studio. In general, I like simple, neutral colors to showcase the craftsmanship of the pottery piece or the art that I have created on it. A lot of times, I have no plans, I just sit down and create. Nothing I make is ever exactly the same and everything is 100% handcrafted.
Thoughts about Pottery:
Ceramic art itself comes from this earth and all its elements. The clay is dug from the ground, water is used to form it, glazes are made up of natural materials and historically the vessel was vitrified in fire. Although, I use an electric wheel and kiln, I still am in awe of the humble beginnings of the pottery craft.
While most of my pieces are functional art, a few are purely decorative. When I make a piece, I have an idea in my mind of what it is, but the fun part is that you can decide how to use it for whatever your hearts desires. A beautiful bowl can be used for a multitude of things, and a jar has endless possibilities. I might make it as spoon rest, but you could use it as a soap dish or for trinkets. I envisioned it as a butter dish, and you might want to put a candle in it and put the lid over it when not in use. My scenic vase collection; in my mind they are a statement piece to speak for itself, but if you want to fill it with beautiful flowers from your garden, be my guest.
My motto is to use it how YOU want to, just use it, enjoy it. My hope is that it brings you as much joy as it brought me to make it. The imagination of a piece is a beautiful thing, and it doesn’t stop with me.
